We Repair All Tile Types
Concrete Tiles
Most common in Frankston & Peninsula
90% of tile roofs in Frankston are concrete—mostly Monier, Bristile, and Wunderlich from the 1970s-90s building boom. We stock common profiles and can source most others.
Common Profiles:
- • Monier Horizon (flat profile)
- • Monier Elabana (curved profile)
- • Bristile Double Roman
- • Wunderlich tiles
- • Boral concrete tiles
Terracotta Tiles
Premium option, character homes
Terracotta tiles are more expensive but incredibly durable—many 100-year-old terracotta roofs are still going strong. Common on older character homes and higher-end builds.
Common Types:
- • Marseilles pattern (interlocking)
- • French pattern
- • Shingle tiles
- • Barrel tiles
- • Heritage/period tiles
Repair or Restore? Here's How to Decide
| Scenario | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1-5 cracked/broken tiles | Repair | Targeted fix solves the problem quickly |
| 5-15 tiles + some pointing issues | Repair (consider restoration) | Repair is still economical; consider restoration for long-term value |
| 15+ tiles, widespread pointing failure | Restoration | Restoration includes all repairs + full recoat. Better value long-term |
| Tiles crumbling, widespread failure | Replacement | Tiles have reached end of life—restoration won't last |
Not sure? We offer free inspections. We'll check your whole roof, tell you honestly what it needs, and give you options. Sometimes we tell people they just need a simple repair—not every roof needs full restoration.

Tile Roof Repair FAQs
How do you match replacement tiles to my existing roof?
We stock common Monier and Bristile concrete tiles that match most Frankston homes from the 70s-90s. For older or discontinued tiles, we check salvage suppliers and tile recyclers. As a last resort, we can take tiles from a less-visible part of your roof (back slope) to use on visible repairs, replacing those with close-match tiles. We'll always show you the match before installing.
What causes roof tiles to crack?
Common causes: 1) Foot traffic—walking on tiles incorrectly, especially older concrete tiles; 2) Thermal movement—tiles expand and contract, eventually cracking; 3) Falling debris—branches, particularly gum nuts and bark in Peninsula areas; 4) Manufacturing defects—some batches of 70s-80s tiles were brittle; 5) Age—tiles become porous and brittle after 30-40 years; 6) Impact—hail or storm damage.
How many broken tiles is too many to repair?
Rule of thumb: if you have up to 5-10% of tiles needing replacement, repair makes sense. If it's 10-20%, we recommend discussing restoration (which includes repairs plus full recoating). Over 20% usually means the tiles themselves are failing and replacement should be considered. We'll give you honest advice—sometimes a simple repair is the right call.
Can you repair terracotta tiles as well as concrete?
Yes, we specialise in both. Terracotta tiles are actually more durable but also more expensive to replace. We handle Marseilles pattern, shingle tiles, barrel tiles, and heritage terracotta. Terracotta is harder to colour-match, so we take extra care sourcing replacements. For heritage-listed homes, we can source reclaimed period tiles.
How long do tile roof repairs take?
Most repairs are completed in half a day to one day. Single tile replacement: 1-2 hours. Multiple tiles (5-10): half day. Ridge capping section: 1 day. Extensive repairs (tiles + valleys + pointing): 1-2 days. We'll give you a timeframe when quoting.
Do you repair the pointing/bedding as well as tiles?
Yes, bedding and pointing repairs are a major part of tile roof maintenance. 'Bedding' is the mortar that secures ridge caps and hip tiles. 'Pointing' is the flexible sealant applied on top. We use modern flexible pointing compounds (not rigid cement mortar) that expand and contract without cracking—they last 15-20 years versus 10 years for old-style mortar.
Is it worth repairing an old tile roof or should I just replace it?
Most tile roofs are worth repairing/restoring if structurally sound. Quality 1970s-80s concrete tiles can last 50+ years with proper maintenance. If the tiles aren't crumbling, battens are intact, and there's no major structural damage, restoration typically costs a fraction of full replacement. We'll be honest if your roof is past saving.
What warranty do you offer on tile repairs?
All tile repairs come with 5-year warranty on workmanship. Ridge capping rebedding/repointing carries 10-year warranty. Valley replacements: 10-year warranty. If a repaired tile comes loose or a re-pointed ridge leaks, we come back and fix it at no charge.
